Duke title for William is one of three titles given by his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II to mark his marriage to Middleton in Westminster Abbey.
William also holds the Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus so that Middleton also be Strathearn Countess and Baroness Carrickfergus.
The second Duke of Cambridge, Prince Adolphus Frederick, was the seventh son of King George III. He opposed the Royal Marriage Act to marry his girlfriend Sarah Louisa Fairbrother. Sarah is an actress and ordinary folk whom he married in 1847. Because marriage is not valid then the children they are all invalid.
